Still buoyed by the success of Nick Carter, le roi des détectives (1908) and their other serials, Éclair executives decided to invest in two more productions starring the famous detective. At that moment, Nick Carter was already an extremely popular character, originating from pulp literature and feuilletons, and French cinema knew how to exploit this fame very well. The success was immediate once again, and the Nick Carter film series ended up exerting a strong influence on the detective cinema that would follow —especially on North American filmmakers, who would adopt similar structures in the following years.
Les nouveaux exploits de Nick Carter maintained the formula that had worked: agile narrative, constant action, and short episodes designed for serialized exhibition, reinforcing the audience's habit of returning to the movie theaters. This logic would be fundamental for the development of the cinematic serials of the 1910s.
It was in this context that Cécile Guyon
(1890–1927) debuted in the series. The actress would continue her career in cinema until 1926, participating in approximately 60 short films and two features. Her premature death in January 1927 interrupted a trajectory that still seemed to be in full swing, suggesting that her filmography could have been significantly larger had she lived longer.
